Elizabeth Banks Joins Cate Blanchett in Limited Series “Mrs. America”

Limited series Mrs. America has rounded up one of the most impressive ensemble casts, and it just welcomed another superstar in the midst. Elizabeth Banks is the latest A-list actress to join this intriguing project.

Mrs. America tells the story of the conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly, who leads an unexpected fight against the Equal Rights Amendment movement. This promising project will explore “how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the ’70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape.”

Banks will take on the role of Jill Ruckelshaus – a pro-choice, socially progressive Republican, appointed by President Ford to advance women’s rights and stop Schlafly and the religious right from taking over the Republican Party.

Mrs. America will show this era through the eyes of several noted second-wave feminists, including Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman) and Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba). The star-studded cast also includes Sarah Paulson, James Marsden, and Melanie Lynskey.
