This is what you call a trip of a lifetime.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi are still celebrating the daytime TV host 60th birthday, this time with an amazing trip to Africa.
The two traveled to Africa last week as part of Ellen’s birthday gift from her wife. During The Ellen Degeneres Show, Portia surprised Ellen with a very special gift, setting up a Wildlife Fund in her name, that supports conservation efforts for endangered animals. The foundation’s first task was The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
“Ellen, you will carry on Dian’s legacy by giving them a permanent home in Rwanda,” de Rossi announced. “Now, you will join Dian as a protector and champion of these amazing animals, the mountain gorillas. Happy birthday!”
The two flew to Rwanda to meet Dr. Tara Stoinski, president of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. In a video shared by Ellen, she says “Today is here! We’re landing in Rwanda to go look at the gorillas and to go help them and build a campus.”
Ellen was so grateful after finding the gorilla, writing, “spending time with these gorillas changed my life.” Ellen captioned another photo of the two with “This was a trip I’ve been waiting my whole life to make.”
