Eminem Tops the Album Charts Ninth Time Running

Eminem tops the charts for the ninth time with his new album Kamikaze.

Kamikaze was a surprise release at the end of August. The album sold 434,000 album units and peaked in the US Billboard 200 charts. Not only is Kamikaze Eminem’s ninth chart-topping album, it is his ninth in a row. Every album that the rapper has released since 2000 have made it to number one.

The record is also one of the top-selling albums of the year. Drake’s Scorpion, Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys and Travis Scott’s Astroworld are the only three albums with better opening week numbers than Kamikaze. This is impressive considering that Eminem did nothing to promote his new album and released it on the down low. He announced the album over Twitter with the humble accompanying comment: “tried not 2 overthink this 1″.

Pitchfork said of the album: “If rap more closely resembled a purely athletic contest, Eminem would still be an Olympian. As a deployer of internal rhyme schemes and sly vocal deliveries, he continues to operate on a rarefied plane, whether spitting in frenetic double-time or sending up today’s sing-songy approaches.”

You can listen to Kamikaze now on all major streaming platforms.
