Emma Watson reveals that Tom Hanks is every bit as wonderful as his reputation would have you believe, when ET caught up with the 27-year-old actress at the premiere of The Circle at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Wednesday.

“You just think to yourself, ‘There’s no way this guy is gonna live up to his reputation.’ And then he does and it’s like, ‘What?! Really?!'” Watson gushed. “He’s funny and kind and generous to work with and very hard working and he’s all the things. He is all the things.”

The Circle, which is directed by James Ponsoldt, is about a young tech genius named Mae Holland (Watson) who gets hired to work for the world’s leading social media and software company. As she swiftly rises through position, the company’s founder, Eamon Bailey (Hanks), begins to mentor her, and introduces her to an immense experiment the company is embarking on that could forever change the boundaries of freedom and privacy.

In the cyber movie, Hanks plays a morally suspicious and questionable character, which is not a usual role for the two-time Oscar winner.

According to Watson, that shift is “what is so amazing about his performance.”

“There’s something so unexpected about it,” Watson shared. “He’s like, all likeness and love and light on the outside, but there’s something else [inside].”

Watson also had nothing but admiration for the late Bill Paxton, who plays her character’s father, Vince Holland, in one of the last movies he filmed before his death in February.

“It was wonderful working with him,” she said. “It was a really personal relationship for me, so it’s not something I feel comfortable talking about… but he was wonderful.”

Hanks also gave his impression on Emma with E! News.

“She’s driven,” said Hanks of his co-star. “When you sit down, you talk ideas.  She has notebooks.  She’s listening to everything that everyone is saying and writes it down.  She fills the notebooks after a couple days shooting. She takes it and incorporates it into day’s work. Her work ethic is stunning.  And for someone who started when she was about seven, it makes sense.”

The  60-year-old actor attended the premiere with his wife, Rita Wilson. The couple will be celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary soon, but they are silent on their plans.

“We have top secret plans that are going to set the world on fire,” he joked.
