Deadline confirms that Empire officially has a new series finale. The final season was supposed to air 20 episodes, however, following the decision to half production due to the Coronavirus, the series’ final season will be two episodes shorter than planned.
An early series finale has been set on Fox for April 21.
According to the outlet, producers are expected to weave some of the footage from episode 19 into the now series finale to “create a more seamless overall ending.”
Empire joins The CW’s Supernatural, which ended up airing 13 episodes during its current season, also due to the decision to halt filming following the outbreak of the health crisis.
