Everything We Know About “Big Little Lies” Season 2

Before Celeste, Renata, Jane, Bonnie, and Madeline return in Big Little Lies season two, it’s time to make sure we’re set and ready.

Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley aka The Monterey Five are all set to return for the second season of HBO’s acclaimed series. They will be joined by the amazing Meryl Streep. Yes, that’s right, Streep is making her way to the small screen as Mary Louise, the grieving mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård). Mary Louise is there to get some answers about that fatal night.

“I’m playing someone who is dealing with whatever the deficits of her parenting were, whatever the mysteries and how you can’t go back in time and fix something, all those issues,” Streep explained. “That was interesting to me.”

“We left off with a lie, so it would have been disingenuous not to mine that lie for all its malignancy,” writer David E. Kelley told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s going to result in more skewed fractures and fissures in the friendships between the women, some of the marriages, and some of the individual psyches.”

The forthcoming season “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

According to Kidman, Season Two “is its own entity and hopefully, it will be taken that way. It was definitely made with an enormous amount of love.” Kelley added, ”The one thing that [Nicole and I] were really adamant about was being truthful to the recovery of abuse because it’s very complicated.”

Big Little Lies Season Two premieres, June 9.
