Oppenheimer is one of the most anticipated movies coming our way in 2023 and we finally know what to expect from it once it’s out. Christopher Nolan just dropped the first trailer for this historical biopic about the scientist described as “the father of the atomic bomb.”

Oppenheimer is based on the book American Prometheus, written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, and it follows the life of the theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. He was the director of the Manhattan Project, which developed the first nuclear weapons during World War II, leading to the creation of the first atomic bomb.

The trailer opens with a voiceover from Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer saying, “We imagine a future and our imaginings horrify. They would fear it until they understand it, and they won’t understand it until they’ve used it.” It’s intersected with a series of visually stunning shots, that we’re used to seeing in a Christopher Nolan movie.

In addition to Murphy, the star-studded cast of Oppenheimer also includes Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh, among others. It will be released on July 21, 2023 by Universal Pictures, marking Nolan’s first film in over two decades not to be distributed by Warner Bros.
