The first trailer for the much anticipated sequel to 2008’s musical Mamma Mia! is finally here.
The first Mamma Mia! was based on the Broadway musical featuring songs by the ABBA. The movie centered on Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, and her quest of finding out which one of her wild mother’s (Donna played by Meryl Streep) flings is her father.
In the second installment, Seyfried and Streep reprise their roles, alongside Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård and Dominic Cooper.
The sequel travels back in time to explore how it all began. Playing young Donna is Cinderella’s Lilly James, and taking on younger versions of Baranski and Walters’ characters are Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alexa Davies.
Fans of the movie are sharing their concerns over the fate of Streep’s character as in the trailer she is referred to in the past tense and includes only glimpses of the elder Donna back as flashbacks.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is scheduled to premiere on July 20, 2018.
