Florence Pugh in Talks to Join “Black Widow”

Florence Pugh is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the action thriller Black Widow.

Marvel’s standalone superhero film will be directed by Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland. Shortland is best known for the Nazi drama Lore.

According to Variety, Marvel met with several actresses but zeroed back in on Pugh after she earned good reviews for her performance on Fighting With My Family.

Plot and character details have been kept under wraps, so it is unclear what character Pugh will play should she officially join the production. It is known that the film centers on Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, a spy, and assassin who grew up being trained by the KGB before becoming an agent of SHIELD and Avenger. The character of Black Widow was first introduced in Iron Man 2 in 2010.

The feature was penned by Jac Schaeffer.
