Fox’s Rent live musical has its cast.
The network announced the casting with a video on Twitter, with musical’s most iconic song, “Seasons of Love,” playing in the background.
The lineup for the live musical version of the beloved Rent includes, Vanessa Hudgens (Grease Live), singer Tinashe, Valentina (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Kiersey Clemons (Dope), Brandon Victor Dixon (Jesus Christ Superstar Live), Jordan Fisher (Grease Live), Brennin Hunt (Walking With Herb), Grammy winner Mario (Empire) and Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) will star in the live musical.
Hudgens will play Maureen Johnson, a performance artist. Clemons will play Joanne Jefferson, Maureen’s girlfriend, and an Ivy League-educated lawyer. Dixon is set as Tom Collins and Valentina as Angel Dumont Schunard, a young drag queen and street percussionist. Fisher will portray aspiring filmmaker Mark Cohen. Hunt plays Roger Davis, a struggling musician and Mark’s roommate and best friend. Tinashe will portray dancer Mimi Marquez and Mario will take on the role of Benjamin Coffin III, Mark and Roger’s former roommate-turned-landlord.
The Tony-Winning musical is loosely based the opera La Boheme and follows a group of New York City artists dealing with the HIV/AIDS crisis in 1989.
Rent live is scheduled to broadcast on January 27.
