“Game of Thrones” Tops the List of 2019 Emmy Awards Nominations

The final season of Game of Thrones ended with a bang this year, and Emmy voters definitely took notice. Despite mixed reviews, HBO’s epic series set a record by receiving a total of 32 nods.

To be fair, Game of Thrones owes the majority of its nominations to technical achievements, honored at the Creative Emmy Awards, but that doesn’t minimize the enormous success of this series. 14 of those nominations were in the main categories, in the running for Primetime Emmy – including best drama series.

Game of Thrones was followed Ava DuVernay’s Netflix mini-series When They See Us, which received a total of 11 nominations in the main categories. HBO’s comedy Barry came in third with a total of 9 nods.

The Emmy Awards will be held on September 22nd at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, but it’s still unclear who will take on the hosting duties.
