George R.R. Martin’s “Nightflyers” Canceled at Syfy

Space drama Nightflyers has been canceled at Syfy after just one season. The news about the cancelation was reported by several media outlets with Deadline getting the confirmation from one of the network’s representatives.

Based on the 1980’s novella from George R.R. Martin, Nightflyers premiered on December 2nd, 2018. The series revolved around a team of scientists who decide to embark on a space journey in order to make contact with aliens. Things took an unexpected turn, however, when they discover that other life forms are already on their ship and that they are not too friendly.

Cast members include Eoin Macken, Ajala, Gretchen Mol, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, and Maya Eshet.

While Nightflyers was conceived as multi-season story, and was one of Syfy’s most expensive projects, the network decided not to order more episodes due to low ratings. The premiere attracted 623,000 viewers, with that number dropping to 420,000 for the finale of season one. The series also didn’t do great with the critics, who gave it mixed reviews.
