“Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Series in Development at Amazon

Rooney Mara in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

A series based on the books by Stieg Larsson and films of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is in the works at Amazon.

The series, titled The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will center around Lisbeth Salander and it won’t be a continuation or sequel of the story from the books or films. It will be set in today’s world with a new story, a different setting, and new characters.

The Millennium book series The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest were written by Stieg Larrson, but unfortunately he passed away and David Lagercrantz finished writing the series with The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl Who Lived Twice.

So far, there isn’t an actress or writer attracted to the series. Andy Harries (The Crown) founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures and Rob Bullock (The Night Manager) will executive produce.

In the Sweedish films, Salander was played by Noomi Rapace as an adult and Tehilla Blad played her as a child. In 2011 American adaptation, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara played her and Claire Foy played her in the 2018 adaptation The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
