GLAAD to Honor Madonna with Advocate for Change Award

Madonna has been one of the greatest LGBTQ allies since the beginning of her career, and GLAAD decided to celebrate the effort she put into helping members of this community with the special Advocate for Change Award.

Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, said they felt Madonna is worthy of this honor because she happens to be one of the biggest advocates of the LGBTQ community. “From the HIV crisis to international LGBTQ issues, she fearlessly pushes for a world where LGBTQ people are accepted. Her music and art have been life-saving outlets for LGBTQ people over the years and her affirming words and actions have changed countless hearts and minds,” she stated.

Madonna is the second person to ever receive this special award, which was introduced in 2013 when former President Bill Clinton came forward to collect it. The Queen of Pop will follow in his footsteps at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards, taking place on May 4 in New York.
