Olivia Rodrigo gave us one of the defining songs of 2021 with her breakout single “Drivers License”, and she’s back to ruling the charts with another smash hit. The pop punk-inspired tune “Good 4 U” became her second single to reach no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The viral music video inspired by teen classics The Princess Diaries and Jennifer’s Body quickly put this song on the map—and so did comparisons to Paramore’s “Misery Business”. “Good 4 U” marks a departure from Rodrigo’s softer sound, and she used it to show the world a new side of herself.

“[We] didn’t want to do the safe thing and put out another heartbreak ballad. We really wanted to show that I’m a versatile songwriter and a versatile artist. I can make heartbreak songs but I can also make cool alternative pop songs,” Rodrigo told Rolling Stone.

“Good 4 U” was released as the third single from the Disney star’s debut album Sour, which came out on May 21st. It’s her second song to hit no. 1 after “Drivers License”, marking the first time in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart that a debut album produced two no. 1 debut singles.
