“The Good Doctor” renewed for season 2 on ABC

Great news The Good Doctor fans! ABC has announced that the hit medical drama will be back for a second season.

The news was announced Wednesday by the network. The news comes as no surprise as the show was the network’s most-watched freshman series in 13 years. Last fall, it was even the most watched drama on television.

The series follows Dr. Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore, a surgeon with autism as he begins his residency at a hospital in San Jose. Highmore’s performance has earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a press statement, “The Good Doctor’s message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC. This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”

The Good Doctor airs Mondays on ABC.
