Freeform has given us two amazing coming-of-age series with Good Trouble and Cruel Summer, but all good things must come to an end. The ongoing fifth season of Good Trouble will mark its final chapter, while the anthology series Cruel Summer won’t return for Season 3.

Cruel Summer made quite a splash when it premiered on Freeform in 2021, but its second season failed to generate the same kind of buzz. This anthology series focused on different characters when it returned for Season 2, but it stayed true to its non-linear storytelling about a duo of teenage girls involved in traumatic events that shaped their lives.

Good Trouble was originally developed as a spin-off of The Fosters, and it ran for five seasons before Freeform announced its cancelation. The second part of Season 5 will premiere this winter, and Freeform green-lit supersized series finale episode to give this series a proper send-off.

Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez, the actresses who led the series as Callie and Mariana Foster, addressed its cancelation on social media. Ramirez said “it has been one of the greatest privileges of [her] life to play a character on a show for 10+ years”, while Mitchell added she couldn’t be prouder of their work together after “10 years of making TV with [her] best friend.”
