Exciting news for Sarah Drew, soon to be a Grey’s Anatomy alum.

Less than a week after it was announced that Drew will be leaving ABC’s hit medical drama, Drew has already landed her next gig chez CBS.

The actress will play one of the two lead roles in the Cagney & Lacey reboot. The other lead role went to Michelle Hurd. The duo will play the titular roles in the female-led detective series.

Drew will star as Cagney, an easy going LAPD detective, and protégée of Lacey. The original series ran from 1981-88 and starred Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly.

The reboot of the iconic 1980s police drama will be written by Bridget Carpenter and directed by Rosemary Rodriguez (The Good Wife).

Drew has been on Grey’s Anatomy for 9 seasons, 8 of which as a series regular playing Dr. April Kepner. Also exiting the show at the end of the current season is Jessica Capshaw who plays Dr. Arizona Robbins. The show’s producers said that the decision to not have Drew and Capshaw not return to the still non-confirmed 15th season was strictly a creative decision.

This is definitely good news for Drew who summed it all up in one simple tweet writing, “Well, it’s been quite a week” along with a bunch of happy emojis, “So excited!!!!”
