A “Grimm” Spinoff in the Works at NBC

NBC decided to revisit its fantasy drama Grimm only a year after canceling the show. According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the network is currently developing a spinoff of the series with Melissa Glenn (Iron Fist, Zoo, Leverage) being attached as writer. David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, co-creators of the original, will serve as consulting producers.

This untitled spinoff will be a continuation of the Grimm’s universe and according to the official description, “the new show builds off the mythology of the original series and will feature returning fan favorites while also introducing new characters, new dangers, and new mysteries.”

Grimm premiered in 2013 and followed detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) who discovers that he is a Grimm, the latest in a line of guardians who are entrusted with the duty of keeping the balance between humans and mythological creatures. The series was partially inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales. Besides Guintoli, the rest of the show’s cast included Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, Bree Turner and Claire Coffee.

Although it received mixed reviews for season one, subsequent seasons of Grimm were met with a more favorable response from the critics. The show also developed a dedicated fan base but never managed to be ratings hit, which eventually caused NBC to cancel the series after six seasons.
