Haley Bennett in Talks to Join “Hillbilly Elegy”

Haley Bennett is in early negotiations to join Ron Howard’s adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy for Netflix.

The streaming giant won the coveted property following a heated bidding war.

Should the The Girl on the Train star board the project, she will star opposite previously announced Amy Adams and Glenn Close. Her role has yet to be announced.

The feature is based on JD Vance’s bestselling memoir, and is a modern exploration of the American dream and follows three generations of an Appalachian family as told by its youngest member, a Yale law student forced to return to his hometown.

Howard will direct from a script penned by The Shape of Water screenwriter Vanessa Taylor. Howard will also produce alongside Brian Grazer and Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment. Julie Oh and Vance will executive produce.
