The Handmaid’s Tale cast teases season 2

With the premiere date ever so close, the cast and producers of Hulu’s hit dystopian series, The Handmaid’s Tale, dish on the upcoming second season.

The cast and creatives from the series attended a panel at Sunday’s PaleyFest panel at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where they dished on what’s to come in Gilead.

The panel included footage from the second season that included a sneak peek at Ofglen’s (Alexis Bledel) life in the Colonies and the joy when Offred’s (Elisabeth Moss) secret, that she’s carrying a baby for Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) is revealed to the other handmaids.

Showrunner Bruce Miller told EW ahead of the panel that the next season will explore aspects of Margaret Atwood’s novel not yet dealt with in the first season.

“Certain books you really feel like the end of the story is the end of the story; here, you almost feel like the book is the beginning of the story. So we really tried to follow our own curiosity and follow what we think is cool in the book that we didn’t get the chance to explore.”

Atwood is very much involved in the project and supportive of the creative decision made by the show’s execs, “She was happy for us to have our own plan,” Miller shared. “So that kind of encouragement really helps, when you have an author who we respect and love to have as part of the process, to have her blessing on our continuation of her world gives you a large amount of freedom and takes a lot of that pressure off. I think a lot of that pressure is worrying about making people mad, because I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Margaret Atwood mad at me.”

Miller and executive producer Warren Littlefield teased that “no one is safe” adding that in Gilead, “anyone could die.”
