This past year has been truly historic for HBO, and they’re finally reaping the fruits of their labor. This network was an absolute leader at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, with several of its shows collecting top prizes—starting with The White Lotus and Succession.
The White Lotus was the biggest winner of the night, with a total of five trophies, including outstanding limited series. It also won awards for outstanding actor and actress in a limited series (Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge) and writing and directing for a limited series (Mike White).
Succession walked away with three awards by the end of the night, including the outstanding drama series. As for HBO’s other major wins, Zendaya walked away with a trophy for her role in Euphoria, while Jean Smart picked up her second consecutive Emmy for Hacks.
It was also a big night for Apple TV+, thanks to the success of its hit show Ted Lasso. This series won a total of four trophies, including the outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead and supporting actor in a comedy series (Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein), and outstanding directing for a comedy series (MJ Delane).
The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 12, with Kenan Thompson hosting the festivities.
