HBO Renews “The Righteous Gemstones” for Season 2

It’s only been a couple of weeks since The Righteous Gemstones premiered on HBO, but the network is obviously confident in the show’s success. It’s just been announced they’ve renewed it for its second season.

Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming, broke the news in an official statement and said they are thrilled that this take on a family comedy has been met with such enthusiasm. They’re excited about sharing the steps in the Gemstone family’s epic journey with showrunner Danny McBride and executive producers Jody Hill and David Gordon Green.

In addition to creating this show, McBride also plays the lead role in this story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work. The Righteous Gemstones also stars Adam DeVine, Dermot Mulroney, and John Goodman.

This isn’t McBride’s first time collaborating with HBO, since he previously worked on another successful sitcom Eastbound & Down, also executive produced by Hill and Green.
