Elba’s victory was a long time coming and every time People announced the new bearer of this title, his fans felt their favorite actor deserved it more. They’ll have nothing to complain this time around since this Golden Globe winner scored this victory fair and square.
Idris Elba rose to prominence during the early 2000s thanks to the role on HBO’s hit series The Wire. He established himself as leading man with the role on Luther, starred in several Marvel blockbusters and scored Golden Globe for his commanding performance Beasts of No Nation. Despite all these and many other accomplishments, his latest definitely took him by surprise.
“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’ Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure,” said the actor in his cover story for People.
