Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio led The Karate Kid movies at different points in history, and they’re finally gearing up to do it by each other’s side! The two The Karate Kid veterans will join forces in the upcoming sixth film in the beloved martial arts series.

Chan and Macchio are no strangers to The Karate Kid franchise, but their characters never met on screen before. Macchio rose to prominence after playing the karate protégé Daniel LaRusso in the original The Karate Kid from 1984, while Chan played a character based on his mentor Mr. Miyagi in the 2010 remake alongside Jaden Smith.

The upcoming sixth film in this franchise was written by Rob Lieber, with Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) serving as the director. Chan and Macchio announced their return in a video shared on Sony Picture’s social media channels and encouraged young actors to submit audition tapes to KarateKidCasting.com, kicking off the search for the next karate kid.

It’s been a while since Jackie Chan’s last foray into The Karate Kid universe, but Ralph Macchio is a different story. He successfully revived the franchise alongside William Zabka with the hit spin-off series Cobra Kai, which centers on their characters Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence years after the events of the original film.
