Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge to Perform “Sea Wall/A Life” on Broadway

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge are taking to the Broadway stage.

The duo is heading to Broadway for a limited run of Sea Wall/A Life — two solo monologues about fatherhood, loss, and resilience. Opening night has been slated for August 8, and performances will run through September 29 at the Hudson Theater.

According to Variety, each monologue “explores the beauty of life, the meaning of love and the various types of death with dramatic and gravely serious storytelling.” Simon Stephens and Nick Payne penned the show. Carrie Cracknell is directing.

“The longstanding artistic relationships we share and beautiful material from Nick and Simon make this production an especially meaningful collaborative journey,” said Gyllenhaal. “Carrie Cracknell has crafted a true theatrical event from two distinct monologues, which, together, shine a light on the universal experience and heart-filled exploration of the beauty of life and meaning of love. Tom and I are incredibly proud to bring this story to Broadway, and to be returning to the beautiful and historic Hudson Theatre.”

The news was announced Thursday by Gyllenhaal and Sturridge.
