Beef was originally conceived as a limited series, but it seems it will continue its life as an anthology series. Netflix is plotting the second chapter of the Emmy-winning series, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway playing lead roles alongside Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.
According to Deadline’s recent report, the second season of Beef will center on two feuding couples, and it will start filming by late summer or fall. Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are reportedly circling this project, along with two of the biggest breakout stars of the past year – May December’s Charles Melton and Priscilla’s Cailee Spaeny.
Lee Sung Jin, who created Beef for Netflix, repeatedly said he’s open to continuing this story following the success of the first season.
“We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters. Whether it stays limited or turns as an anthology or we continue existing, that’s really up to Netflix. But whatever they decide, I’m definitely ready,” Jin previously told Deadline.
The first season of Beef was led by Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, and it was honored with multiple prestigious awards, including eight Emmys and three Golden Globes.
