“Jane the Virgin” Spin-Off is Officially in Development

A Jane the Virgin spin-off is coming to the CW.

The news was confirmed by the network םמ Tuesday. While an official confirmation that a spin-off is currently in development, very little details were revealed by the network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled project will follow a storyline from the flagship series but will feature an all-new cast. Jane the Virgin lead Valentina Garza, however, has been tapped to pen the series. She is also listed as an executive producer, alongside Jennie Snyder Urman, Ben Silverman, Joanna Klein, and Emily Gipson.

The outlet also reports that if the series will move forward, the spin-off will not debut as a backdoor pilot on Jane’s final season. Just earlier this week, The CW announced that Jane the Virgin will return for its fifth and final season in 2019.

Season four finale was quite the shocker for Jane fans as it saw the return of Jane’s presumed-dead husband, Michael (Brett Dier). Urman told Entertainment Weekly, “The return of this character felt right thematically in terms of where we wanted to go, in terms of a return to this central love triangle that was so important to the show for so long,” he said. “And now everybody is in really different places.”
