Jennifer Connelly Is Joining “Top Gun” Sequel

Tom Cruise aka Maverick has personally confirmed that Jennifer Connelly is joining the Top Gun sequel.

Back in July, it was reported that the 47-year-old actress was in talks to join the film, a sequel to the 1986 original. But now ET has gotten the official confirmation from Cruise at the Mission: Impossible Fallout premiere in Washington DC over the weekend.

“Look, she’s a great actress, obviously. …When you see the film, you’ll see why she’s perfect for it,” Cruise told the outlet. “She has such a very talented, very vibrant, and, you know, see we’re just going to have a great cast. Gonna be a lot of fun.”

Top Gun: Maverick named after Cruise’s nickname in the film is directed by Joe Kosinski, with original producer Jerry Bruckheimer on board to produce the second installment. The sequel will be set in a world of drone technology and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting. Back in June, Cruise teased, “Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick.”

Val Kilmer will reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky and Miles Teller has been tapped to play the son of Goose.

Top Gun: Maverick is set to release on July 12, 2019.
