Denzel Washington rocked our world with his post-apocalyptic action film The Book of Eli, and this story will soon continue. The prequel series based on the hit 2010 movie is currently looking for potential buyers, with John Boyega set to headline and executive produce it.

The Book of Eli chronicled the journey of the hardened nomad Eli, as he travels across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America with one goal in mind – to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. In addition to Washington in the lead role, the original film also starred Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, and Jennifer Beals.

The prequel series would reportedly star Boyega as a younger version of Eli, 30 years before the events of the original movie. This would put the start of the series around the time of the nuclear event that ravaged Eli’s world.

Gary Whitta, who wrote the original film, would return as creator, writer, and executive producer of the prequel series. The Hughes Brothers, who directed Washington in The Book of Eli, would join him as executive producers, alongside Boyega. Alcon Entertainment is producing the project and taking it to select premium buyers, but it probably won’t take them long to find a new home for this hot package.
