John Cena to Star in a New Action-Comedy for Netflix

The WWE headliner has just landed his next major acting gig.

The Hollywood Reports confirms that John Cena has been cast in the still untitled action-comedy film directed and produced by Jason Bateman. The story reportedly centers on a family that gets stuck in an old abandoned movie studio. The sets come to life and the family members find themselves stuck in various movies.

The pro wrestler turned actor first went into the movie business starring in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck in 2015, followed by Blockers and  most recently Bumblebee. His next project is the family comedy Playing With Fire, which begins shooting next month.

The upcoming untitled feature re-teams Bateman with Game Night writer Mark Perez. Perez will pen the script. He is currently writing the Carmen Sandiego adaptation for Netflix. Bateman is producing with Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films along with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth for Roth Kirschenbaum Films.
