Johnny Flynn to Play David Bowie in Upcoming Biopic “Stardust”

David Bowie biopic Stardust finally found its leads.

It was recently announced that Lovesick‘s Johnny Flynn will portray the legendary musician with Marc Maron (GLOW) playing Bowie’s record company publicist and Jena Malone (The Hunger Games) playing his first wife Angie.

“Johnny Flynn is one of the UK’s most talented emerging actors, and a musician in his own right,” producer Van Carter told Screen Daily.

Stardust will begin shooting in June 2019 and will revolve around David Bowie’s first visit to the United States. This moment represented a crucial point in Bowie’s career, as he was inspired to adopt the persona of Ziggy Stardust and started his rise to music superstardum. The biopic will be directed by Gabriel Range (I Am Slave), while Christopher Bell (The Last Czars) will write the script.

Besides Netflix’ sitcom Lovesick, Johnny Flynn is also known for his roles in Amazon’s period drama Vanity Fair and 2017’s psychological thriller Beast. Parallel to his acting career, Flynn also established himself as a successful musician. He is known as the frontman of the folk rock band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, with whom he recorded five studio albums, while also presenting several solo projects.
