Todd Phillips spent five years working on Joker: Folie à Deux, but this sequel was worth the wait. The first trailer for this highly-anticipated film is finally here and it sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker finally finding the perfect partner in crime in Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.

Joker: Folie à Deux will see Joker and Harley Quinn developing an unusual connection after crossing each other’s paths at Arkham Asylum. The first trailer sees them catching each other’s side for the first time, falling in love, and performing a series of elaborate dance numbers to the beat of “What the World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love)”.

Joker: Folie à Deux has often been classified as a musical, but its director Todd Phillips said this description is reductive, saying it’s “a movie where music is an essential element” instead.

“The first ways I described Arthur were as weird and aloof and distant, but he has music in him, he has a grace to him. That informed him a lot in the first film. It didn’t seem like that big of a step what we did here,” he said at CinemaCon in Las Vegas

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released on October 4, and its supporting cast includes Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey.
