The Game of Thrones alum has joined the cast of Amazon’s highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series.

He joins previously announced Will Poulter and Markella Kavenagh in the series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic fantasy novels. The scripted drama is set in Middle-Earth’s Second Age, before the events of the author’s primary trilogy.

While Amazon declined to comment and all official details of the casting are kept under wraps, according to sources, Mawle will be playing a villain named Oren.

J.A. Bayona is set to direct the first two episodes from writers Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad), Jason Cahill (The Sopranos), and Justin Doble (Stranger Things). The four double up as executive producers alongside Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Gene Kelly, and Sharon Tal Yguado.

Deadline was first to report the casting.
