Josh Brolin Casts As Cable in Deadpool Sequel

Josh Brolin has been cast as Cable in Deadpool 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Oscar nominated actor joins Atlanta breakout star Zazie Beetz in the celebrities set to star together with Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming superhero sequel.

In the comics, Cable was the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey). The mutant had various dealings with Deadpool as friend and rival. His powers include telekinesis and telepathy, giving him the ability to travel in time, superhuman strength and teleportation.

Josh signed a four-movie contract to portray Cable in Deadpool 2, and most likely other Marvel films such as X-Force and a possible third Deadpool project, according to the outlet.

Brolin’s casting news came as a surprise to comic book and movie fans, since he is no stranger to the Marvel world, as he also portrays the character of Thanos from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. His character will have a major role in the Avengers: Infinity War.

Reynolds shared his sentiments regarding Brolin’s dual roles. “Fox! You can’t play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch,” he posted on Twitter Wednesday.

While Deadpool falls under the Marvel universe, the films are produced under competing studios. Deadpool belongs to 20th Century Fox along with the other X-Men movies. Meanwhile, the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises belong to Disney. The Avengers and Guardians are set to team up in Infinity War.

Moviegoers were delighted to finally see the Deadpool sequel’s trailer in early March. Wade Wilson is back as the red and black badass whose timing is more than a little off, and there’s even a shot of the hero’s bare backside.

The first installment of Deadpool earned more than $783 million globally in 2016 and gathered two Golden Globe nominations and a Directors Guild of America Awards nomination for director Tim Miller.

Miller backed out of the sequel due to creative differences with Reynolds and now director David Leitch is on board.

Deadpool 2 is expected to hits theaters in March of 2018.
