Anatomy of a Fall walked away with Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and it’s not done winning major awards. The list of European Film Awards winners is in, and Justine Triet’s drama led the way after coming out victorious in four major categories.

Anatomy of a Fall was one of the main contenders for the best European film award, and it defeated tough competition in Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, Agnieszka Holland’s Green Border, and Matteo Garrone’s Me Captain to take this trophy home.

To make the whole thing even more impressive, Anatomy of a Fall came out victorious in all the major categories it was nominated in, including best director (Triet), best screenplay (Triet and Arthur Harari), and best actress (Sandra Hüller).

Despite its recent success on the award season circuit, Anatomy of a Fall won’t be in the running for the best international feature at the Academy Awards. It hasn’t been selected for by France at its entry, but Triet is choosing to focus on the positives after this snub.

“I think now we are so happy because fortunately the movie’s really worked. It’s overcome all these things… You know don’t do films for this… the film no longer belongs to me,” Triet told the reporters at the European Film Awards.
