Kid Rock Pays Off $81,000 Worth of Layaways for 350 Families at Nashville Walmart

American musician Kid Rock decided to start the holiday season a bit early this year and pay off $81,000 worth of layaways at one Nashville Walmart. According to Tom Meyer, the manager of the 3458 Dickerson Pike store, Rock cleared all the accounts belonging to 350 families and enabled them to get their things for free.

“Kudos to Kid Rock for making such a gesture in our community,” Meyer told WBIR. “I think that’s a pretty Nashville proud moment.”

Walmart layaway enables customers to reserve the items they want to purchase and pay for them over an extended period of time. After the items are paid for, the customers can take them home.

After his generous gesture, Kid Rock went on Twitter and said that he was inspired by actor Tyler Perry, who recently did the same thing at two Walmarts located in Georgia.

“@tylerperry Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville. Merry Christmas and God Bless You!” wrote the 47-year-old musician on his Twitter.

Tyler Perry recently made the announcement on social media that the cleared out the layaways for all accounts at two Walmarts, located in Atlanta and Douglasville. The total worth of the accounts was reportedly around $434,000.

“I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas. So Merry Christmas to everybody,” – he said in a video posted to social media. “You got to go into the Walmart, get your layaway and pay a penny, one penny, and you get your layaway. I know it’s hard times and a lot of people are struggling. I’m just really really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this. So, God bless you. Go get your stuff.”
