Kim Cattrall is to star in the forthcoming British comedy The Cockfields.
The Sex and the City star joins Ricky Gervais’ After Life stars Joe Wilkinson and Diane Morgan. The sitcom was penned by Wilkinson together with David Earl. Also starring are Sue Johnston, Bobby Ball, and Nigel Havers.
The comedy follows Simon (Wilkinson), who takes his girlfriend Donna (Morgan) back home for the very first time to make the occasions of his 40th birthday. Things, however, will not go smoothly for the two who spend a long weekend at the Isle of Wight as guests of Simon’s doting mother Sue (Johnston), and controlling stepdad Ray (Ball). Cattrall is set to play Simon’s father’s (Havers) new American girlfriend Melissa.
“David and I adore writing about this oddball family who, despite their faults and differences, love each other. We can’t wait to see our dream cast bring The Cockfields to life,” Wilkinson said.
Earl added: “We’re both chuffed and incredibly thankful to UKTV for giving us this opportunity to share The Cockfields with the Gold audience. On a personal note, I’ve had to endure many months staring at Joe Wilkinson’s face over Skype whilst writing the scripts — he usually has food in his beard — so, after all that, I bloody hope everyone likes the show.”
The Cockfields is slated to debut sometime later this year.
