Leonardo DiCaprio will star in a Leonardo da Vinci biopic

Seems only fit that a Leonardo will star in a biographical film about Leonardo da Vinci.

This is exactly the case in the upcoming Paramount Pictures film about the famous painter and scientist. According to Deadline who first published the news, Paramount Pictures beat Universal in an intense bidding war for the rights to Walter Isaacson’s not-yet-published book on Da Vinci. Isaacson is the bestselling author behind Steve Jobs, which was also adapted to the big screen in 2015.

DiCaprio will produce the film under the production company which he established, Appian Way Productions, alongside Jennifer Davisson, the company’s president. Appian Way’s first production was The Assassination of Richard Nixon in 2004, and as of 2016, it has produced 14 feature films.

There’s no doubt casting DiCaprio is fitting. According to family legend, Leo got his name after his mother, Irmalin DiCaprio, pregnant with him, felt him kick while she looking at a Da Vinci painting at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

Isaacson’s book, Leonardo Da Vinci will be released in October.
