“The Lion King” Broadway Cast Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Live Elton John Performance

There’s no better way to celebrate 20 years of The Lion King on broadway than with Sir Elton John!

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Broadway adaptation of The Lion King, the cast hosted a very special guest. The cast on stage was joined by John who helped write the GRAMMY and Oscar-Winning soundtrack for the Disney film. The Tony-Winning production enjoyed a surprise appearance on Sunday night and sung one of the movie’s, and John’s classic hit song, “The Circle of Life.”

John played piano and sang as the cast backed him up with lyrics in Zulu.

This unique performance by the music icon was doubly surprising as it served as a sort of return for the singer to stage, after earlier this year he had to cancel two months of performances in Las Vagas due to a dangerous bacterial infection. In a statement regarding the cancellation he wrote “I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them.”

Watch the special and touching performance of the great Elton John and the amazing The Lion King cast.
