Lionel Richie Grateful for His Kids’ Support at Foot and Handprint Ceremony

On Wednesday, Lionel Richie was honored with a foot and handprint ceremony outside the TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Lionel’s children – reality star Nicole Richie, model Sofia Richie, and son Miles Richie – were in attendance to support their father and the 68-year-old singer couldn’t be happier to be with them during this special event.

The Grammy-award winning artist opened up to ET’s Nischelle Turner about sharing this memorable occasion with the people he loves dearly.

“They’ve done so much to try to kill me,” Lionel teased. “But to have them here? [All] I’ve heard all day was, ‘Dad, we’re so proud of you! Dad, we’re so proud of you!’ You know, that means everything to a parent.”

The “Hello” singer joked that receiving an honor with his hand and footprints in cement should buy him half a day of being cool in his children’s eyes before they “try to kill me one more time.”

His kids weren’t the only ones who came out to show their love and support. Some of his closest friends, like Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Grazer and Jimmy Kimmel also attended the ceremony.

Jackson shared a video via Instagram showing the legendary singer dipping his handprints into the cement, which he captioned, “Extra proud to be part of This Icon @lionelrichie Iconic Moment.”

Lionel also talked about the significance of the moment after spending almost five decades in show business.

“When I first came to this town there was a Holiday Inn right next door,” he told ET. “And my first touch and feel of Hollywood was the hands and the feet here. I really got teary-eyed because now I’m here, you know what I mean?”

He added that he was amazed by the opportunity to “be a part of the story of Hollywood.”
