“Lost Girls” Move From Amazon to Netflix Includes a Cast Change

The narrative feature debut by Liz Garbus, the Oscar-nominated documentarian, is coming to Netflix.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the project, which was initially at Amazon studios, has been picked up by the streaming giant. This change also means that Sarah Paulson who was originally attached to star in the true-crime drama is no longer part of the project. Instead, Amy Ryan will star in Lost Girls.

The on-screen adaptation of the book by Robert Kolker follows Mari Gilbert (Ryan) as she fights to get law enforcement agents to search for her missing daughter and, in the process, uncovers a string of unsolved murders of young female sex workers on the South Shore barrier islands of Long Island.

Ryan is no stranger to the theme of a mom longing to find her children, having earned an Oscar nomination for playing a mom searching for her kidnapped little girl in Gone Baby Gone.

Michael Werwie penned the script and Amy Nauiokas and Rory Koslow will serve as executive produces.
