“Luke Cage” Canceled by Netflix

There will be no third season for Luke Cage.

Just one week after it pulled the plug on Iron Fist, Netflix has canceled another Marvel drama. The announcement was made after the superhero action series premiered its second season on the streaming service.

Luke Cage was part of a five-series deal between Marvel and Netflix including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Defenders. The Punisher was also later added to the mix.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix and Marvel Television said in a joint statement.

According to Deadline the reason for ending the series is stemmed in “creative differences.” The outlet added that the two parties involved were unable to move forward even though talks for a third season had already taken place and detailed drafts for the third season delivered to Marvel and Netflix this week.

Looks like a cancelation was the only viable exit strategy for all parties involved.
