Mahershala Ali will star in True Detective’s Season 3

It has been confirmed by HBO president of programming Casey Bloys, that the Oscar-winner for Moonlight will join the cast of True Detective.

The first season of the anthology crime drama TV series created and written by Nic Pizzolatto debuted in 2014 starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson won over critics and crowds. Even though the second season was star studded with big-talent like Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams, is wasn’t as well received as the first.

Ali announced his involvement with True Detective on Instagram. This lead role follows several high profile roles like that in House of Cards.

Bloys added that deciding on a director is probably the last hurdle before green lighting the third season of the anthology.
