ABC has put pilot commitment for a drama that reunites Mandy Moore with This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
The new project is inspired by Moore’s musical childhood and her experiences during the late 1990s teen music phenomenon.
Multiple outlets report that currently titled 90’s Popstar will be produced by Marc Webb from a script penned by Amanda Lasher. Moore is set to executive produce alongside Aptaker and Berger alongside Adam Londy, Regina Lee and Webb.
The drama revolves around a family from a small town in Florida who must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight.
Moore was born in Florida and grew up in Orlando. Her musical career kicked off in 1999 with the release of her first single “Candy” from her debut studio album So Real. Moore released six studio albums and is currently working on her first album in 10 years.
