Marcia Cross to Star in “Jane The Virgin” Spinoff Pilot

The CW’s Jane the Virgin spinoff has added to its cast.

Deadline reports that Marcia Cross, best known for playing Bree on Desperate Housewives, will star in Jane the Novela. Cross has landed a lead role and will star opposite Jacqueline Grace Lopez.

The highly anticipated spin-off pilot hails from Jane’s creative team, including, creator and executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, original seres star Gina Rodriguez, and exec producers Ben Silverman and director Brad Silberling. Silberling will direct from a script penned by Jane writer, Valentina Garza.

According to the outlet, Cross will play Renata, Felix’s manipulative and glamorous mother, who will stop at nothing to secure her son’s legacy, even if it means standing in the way of his happiness.

The spin-off series is described as a telenovela anthology series in which each season is based on a different fictional novel “written by” Jane Villanueva (Rodriguez) and narrated by the author herself. The first installment takes place at a Napa Valley Vineyard, where family secrets (and family members) don’t stay buried for long.

The fifth and final season of Jane the Virgin premieres March 27.
