Marvel fans spent five years waiting for a follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok and Taika Waititi finally answered their prayers. The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is here and it managed to exceed our wildest expectations.

As with most Marvel movies, the first trailer promises a perfect blend between action and humor, with high emotional stakes. The trailer opens with Thor running through the woods, first as a child and a teenager, before transforming into the all-mighty Good of Thunder that we know him as today.

He announces that his “superheroing days are over” and that he’s planning to use his hands as “tools of peace”, but it will take some time before he gives up saving the world for good. He must join forces with some of his former allies to stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all gods including Jane Foster, who takes control of Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.

In addition to Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder will also star Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy, including Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan.

After several major date shifts, it’s set to hit the theatres on July 8.
