Marvel’s “Black Widow” Casts O. T. Fagbenle

The Handmaid’s Tale actor has been tapped to star in the standalone superhero feature opposite Scarlett Johansson.

Fagbenle is the latest addition to the Marvel feature. He joins previously announced cast members David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fagbenle will star in a leading role opposite Johansson who stars as the film’s titular character. While very little is known about the plot (and characters for that matter), it is known that the film will center on the origin story of Johansson’s KGB spy assassin Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow who ultimately became an agent of SHIELD and an Avenger. Johansson’s character was introduced in Iron Man 2.

Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland is directing from Jac Schaeffer’s script.

Fagbenle is best known for his role of Luke, husband of Elisabeth Moss’ June Osborne on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. His other credits include BBC’s The Interceptor, HBO’s Looking and The Five currently streaming on Netflix.
