Matthew McConaughey Desperately Wanted to Play Jack in “Titanic”

It’s impossible to imagine anyone but Leonardo DiCaprio playing the role of Jack Dawson, but things could’ve played out differently.

McConaughey just revealed he was one of the actors who audition to play the lead in Titanic, and he still regrets not getting the part. McConaughey said he audition with Kate Winslet, and he was sure he nailed it after leaving the room.

He was pretty confident he’ll get the role, but James Cameron never called back. “I didn’t get it. I never got offered that. And as I’ve said before not even half-jokingly if it’s true if that was an offer and it didn’t come to me, I’ve got to go back and go, ‘I’ve got to meet in an alley with that agent,'” said the actor.

Matthew McConaughey probably wasn’t too bitter about it after starring alongside DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street and seeing how great of an actor he is. Ironically, they were both nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor that year, and McConaughey ended up scoring the win thanks to his amazing turn in Dallas Buyers Club.
