Meghan Markle Makes Surprise Appearance at the 2018 British Fashion Awards

The pregnant Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the 2018 British Fashion Awards on Monday to everyone’s delight.

Markle presented Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller with the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. To those who have forgotten, Keller designed Markle’s custom ivory silk wedding dress for her royal wedding to Prince Harry.

“I feel especially proud to announce tonight’s winner, who yes is a British designer leading on the global stage with vision and creativity, but also with incredible kindness,” Markle said. “Which is why when I met her for the first time 11 months ago I knew we would be working very closely together,” she added.

37-year-old Markle stunned in a black Givenchy gown. She accessorized with a gold bangle bracelet by Pippa Small and strappy heels by Tamara Mellon. She completed the look with minimal makeup and a sleek low bun.

The Duchess went against the royal family’s fashion rules (again!). The fashion rebel not only opted for colored nail polish, her off the shoulder gown goes against the royals’ affinity for more modest ensembles.

Keller is the first ever female artistic director of Givenchy. The gown that Keller designed for Markle is currently on display at Windsor Castle.
